Tenants that have been singled out, threatened, harassed or denied a home because of:
Having children or being pregnant
Disability
Having an emotional support animal
Race or ethnicity
Gender, gender orientation or gender expression
may have a claim to enforce their fair housing rights in court. Common examples of housing discrimination include when a landlord:
Refuses to rent a home to a family with children or prohibits the children from playing in the yard
Evicts a tenant who provides a doctor’s note for permission to keep an emotional support animal despite a lease provision prohibiting pets (an emotional support animal is not a pet)
Requires a rental applicant to have a social security number or prove they are a citizen
